However, as I learned more, I realized it was very clear the H&E cars had to start life as built or partial built XJSC (Cabirolet models) - it would be easier to adapt a hood (top) to that design than cut up a coupe. If there's one thing I have learned to dislike, it's flashy modern headunits in classic vehicles. Don't get me wrong, I love a nice stereo/head unit, but often times flashy modern radios look goofy the day they go on market, and worse as they age. Case in point - this 2000's looking cassette deck in this Jag. I tend to gravitate to original or original looking radios. But I do love Android Auto, and use screen-based head units in many cars. My goal there is clean looking units that will age well, and they must work well. Originally I planned to use a Continental/VDO head unit that is very popular for 1980s/1990s Euro cars. It's a clean looking modern radio that matches the period aesthetic. But then I found out there are folks making Single DIN* radios with screens that run Android and support Apple Carplay / Android Auto. Further research, and I found one for $78 with coupon code off Ebay. Surely this was too good to pass up! That unit arrived, and well, it looks pretty clean. So much in fact I think I'll try it in the XJS! So come along as we do just that! Will it fit? Will it even work? Is it any good? On today's video, we go over the steps as we did our first oil and filter change on this 2024 Honda CRV Hybrid that came into the shop. This first oil change was done at 1800 miles to be an eariler than normal change for break-in, even though maintenance minder still showed over 70% oil life. Future changes will be more nominal intervals. This is how we did it. Since we started this project, we had hoped to do a quick set of repairs and maintenance and get this out on the road by Easter Sunday 2024. Well, that came and went and we kept finding more things that needed to be done urgently before driving. From rotted fuel lines, ignition system, fuel tank evap, and brakes, it turned out to be more than expected. While we didn't do a FULL refurb on this, we did the "bare minimum" in my eyes to get this back on the road safely. Yes - there's still more we can do, and should / will do in time. In the meantime, while we have more video to post that will give greater detail on some aspects of this repair work, I wanted to share an overview of every system we touched and what we learned. And to show, that while we missed Easter Sunday as a deadline, the car is back on the road! A quick update video from March 22, 2024 showing some of the work we've done. We also get into a debatable topic which is how deep this work will go - it's spring time, and I'd like to drive this car. I may be doing some of this again to really make the engine bay perfect. For now, I need to try and limit scope to the truly needed things, things that can really harm V12 Jags. Just look at those rubber fuel lines!
Today we get the Jag up on the lift, and bring you along for a deeper dive mechanical inspection. Note that we've already spent time under the bonnet in prior videos, so today is all about going underneath the car.
